with any HR issues you may have.
You may want to view some
brief instructions
on finding your way around the site and using our service.
If you are about to issue any new policies, we would advise you to look
at what our new premium service can offer you.
Buying (additional) helpline time:
If you require additional helpline time, you can buy it on an
ad hoc
basis.
What's new?
- Rates: the annual increase in the rates for compensatory
awards for unfair dismissal, a "week's pay" for calculating statutory redundancy payments,
and a statutory guarantee payment will increase from 1 February 2009. The new rates for
SMP, SAP, SPP and SSP, which take effect in April 2009, have also been published.
- Flexible working: plans to extend the right to request flexible working,
as from April 2009, to all parents of children aged under 16 have been confirmed. In addition,
under the proposed Children, Skills and Learning Bill, all UK employees with the requisite
length of service will be able to request time off to undertake relevant training.
- Agency workers: the Agency Workers' Directive must be in force in the
UK by 5 December 2011. This will give agency workers equal rights to permanent staff
after 12 weeks with an employer.
- Opt-out: the European Parliament has voted to scrap the ability to opt-out
of the maximum 48 hour week.
- Grievances and discipline: ACAS has published its revised draft guidance
on grievance and discipline
, prior to the repeal of the statutory
dispute resolution procedures.
